Thoughts of...Small Words
Theology is the study of God and His relation to the universe. Theologians contemplate and pontificate on doctrines such as justification, sanctification, propitiation, regeneration, election, and vocation. They study and debate angelology, anthropology, hamartiology, soteriology, ecclesiology, and eschatology. As they endeavor to define God, theologians dissect mysticism, deism, monotheism, pantheism, atheism, polytheism, henotheism, dualism, agnosticism, and docetism. They wrestle with the cosmological, teleological, and ontological arguments for the existence of God.
I just thank the Lord that I do not have to be a theologian to be acceptable to Him! When His disciples asked Jesus who was the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, Jesus, holding a child, said, “Except you be converted and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” () Of the little children that flocked to Him Jesus said, “Suffer the little children and forbid them not to come unto Me. For of such is the kingdom of heaven.” ()
The simple, unconditional, adoring, obedient faith of a dependent child is pleasing to God (). Faith perceives as fact that which is not revealed in the scientific pursuit of knowledge. Faith believes what God says ().
God does not speak to His children with the big words of theology. He uses little words; words that require faith, not knowledge. For example, words like:
1. do (; ; ; ; ; )
2. if (; ; ; ; ; )
3. as (; )
4. any (; ; ; )
5. all (; ; ; ; ,
6. but (; ; ; Matt 5:22, 28, 32, 37, 39, 44; Matt 6:6, 15, 20-21, 33)
7. in (; ; , )
8. go (; ; )
9. come (; ; ; ; )
Read the Bible to learn what God is saying to you and pay attention to the small words. With the faith of a child, the power of God is in the small words.
