Thoughts of...The Nearness of God

This past weekend we celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, whereby He defeated Satan, sin and death. At both the SonRise Service and regular Sunday service, I could really feel the presence of the Lord in our midst. He was close as we rejoiced in His glory and majesty.

I do not always feel like He is close to me. Sometimes He feels quite distant, in fact. The further away from me He feels, the more unsettled is my life. So why does the Lord withdraw from me? Or does He…?

I have learned through the years of walking with the Lord that when my emotions are raw, I need to get into The Word of God to get God’s perspective. My emotions change but our God changes not. When I am unstable, I have learned to cling to the Rock, Who is immovable. What does God’s Word say about where God is?

1. God is with me – always (Rom 8:31, Matt 28:20, Heb 13:5)

2. God is above me – covering me (Deut 4:39, Is 55:8-9)

3. God is beneath me – holding me up (Deut 33:27)

4. God is before me – preparing the way He wants me to go (Ex 13:21)

5. God is behind me – protecting me (Ex 14:19)

6. God is all around me – surrounding me with His love (Ps 34:7)

7. By His grace through my faith in Jesus Christ, God is within me – taking up permanent residence (John 14:17)

So, regardless of what I feel, the Lord is always near! He is with me, above me, beneath me, before me, behind me, around me, and most amazing of all, within me! Never have the words of Psalm 139:1-13a rung so true in my ears!
If the Lord feels distant, who has moved?
